Gay Travel Guide

Miami and Miami Beach.  Known for its great beaches, nightlife, and warm, sunny winter weather, Miami is a world travel destination for Gay men.   Most Gay international visitors who come to Miami stay in Miami Beach which is it’s own city long identified with Gay men and nightlife.  However, Miami has so much more. And if you are coming to Miami specifically for Gay nightlife, you might be disappointed.  But Miami is a place filled with Gay men, arts, architecture, great restaurants and of course is world class beaches.

Although most Gay visitors stay in Miami Beach, there is much more to greater Miami.   Across the bay is Downtown Miami with a city scape that rivals most any world destination.   Downtown has become hot, with many new developments, world class condominium towers, fabulous new shopping areas and late night dance clubs.

Downtown Miami

Just to the north of Downtown is Wynwood.  Not long ago, Wynwood was an area of warehouses, poverty and crime.  But Wynwood has evolved into one of the most dynamic Arts Districts in the world and the center of Miami’s new creative energy.  Known for its walls of graffiti “street art”, Wynwood is the go-to place to immerse yourself in a most dynamic street art scene.  Wynwood Walls, a curated urban park of the best known international street artists is not to be missed.  And while there, there are plenty of places to eat, drink and get creatively inspired.  There is even a Drag Brunch every Sunday at Wynwood’s R House.

Just North beyond Wynwood is the Design District.   Once an area of design furniture showrooms, the Design District has become an urban enclave of the the most chic and expensive luxury clothing brands.  Its worth checking out, just to see the incredible storefronts.

South West of Downtown Miami, there is Coral Gables, an incredibly beautiful historic area of Miami.    With its palatial Biltmore Hotel, golf courses, luxury homes and shopping area, its a special and unique place to visit.  Stop by the Biltmore, sit by its enormous swimming pool and have a cocktail.  Or visit on a Sunday for one of the world’s most lavish brunches.

Coral Gables is also home to Miami’s Gay sauna, Club Aqua Miami.

Between Coral Gables and Downtown Miami, don’t miss Little Havana, the traditional center of Miami’s Cuban population.   While Cuban and Spanish speaking people are everywhere in Miami, Little Havana is the first stop for many new immigrants. Walk around, drink  a Cafe con Leche or eat a great Cuban meal at Exquisito Restaurant, a cuban restaurant destination since 1974.

Gay Neighborhood

But it’s Miami Beach where Gay men made their home and gentrified the city in the 1980’s.  Miami Beach, with hairless shirtless Gay muscle boys on the beach and in the parks and streets, Miami Beach became known as a world wide Gay destination.  But with Miami Beach’s world renaissance, the passage of time, and rising rents, much of the beach’s Gay night life has moved north to Fort Lauderdale’s Wilton Manors.   But in recent year’s the city has engages the Gay community and its making every effort to welcome Gays to Miami Beach.  There is new Gay energy in Miami Beach and there is, like always, a great variety of Gay men.
